R&D: creating the basis of a practical expert system

However improbable it may seem to the general public, managing a bike sharing system is no pick nick.
Organizing a fleet of vehicles in order to make sure that as many users as possible can utilize a bicycle when they arrive is actually an extremely complex problem when one wants to do this in an optimal way.
I spent a bit of effort in trying to come up with a sound way of solving such a problem in such a way that the solution is generated fast,
but one may not be sure the solution is optimal.
If boundaries can be established so that for all intents and purposes the solutions are good enough, then that means we solve the problem in practice.
The way of tackling the problem was elegant, and especially usable by allowing for human intervention in the planning procedure.
